Four weeks before Christmas people all over the world start to light a candle every Sunday to
celebrate their anticipation for the birth of Jesus. This ritual, called Advent, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and with this meaning in the back of the head it can be celebrated by people of all religions.
Grade 3 celebrates Advent every Monday, honouring not only the victory of light but also the value
of things that seem ordinary to us. In the first week we expressed our gratitude for the stars and
the light of the candle. We also honoured the existence of stones and all things solid, like crystals, seashells and bones. This week we acknowledged the existence of plants and their service to humankind. We light the candles and come together to read the advent verses. We enjoy the
moment and remember that there is light and goodness in everything if we only learn to see it.
