Paro Anand Visits

Acclaimed Author Paro Anand visits Yellow Train!

On 8th July, we had the absolute pleasure of having Bal Sahitya Puraskar winner Paro Anand at school. She discussed her life and works with our group of absolutely riveted 8th, 9th and 10th Graders and teachers!

She is such a warm and beautiful person with a treasure trove of experiences! For those of you who haven't read her work yet (she writes mainly for young adults), we would HIGHLY recommend that you do!

This is the second year that we have had the pleasure of taking her book No Guns at my Son's Funeral to the children. Several of her short stories have also been introduced in our English classes.

Sudarshana, English Teacher for Grades 8,9 and 10 writes about the experience:

The process of getting her to visit us began last year when on completing the book, I asked the children of the 8th Grade to write her a letter each on how they felt about it and what feedback they wanted to give her. After scanning and emailing Paro these letters, I got an immediate response from her saying she'd love to come meet the children instead of responding over a letter! Fortunately, the Coimbatore children's literature festival was scheduled for the weekend and she was in town. The excitement and enthusiasm she exhibited at the thought of visiting Yellow Train was simply heartwarming!

She has promised to come back and we are already looking forward to making that happen!
